The St. Dominic Chargers traveled to Wakaw on Nov. 1 for the North West pre-district championship.

The Chargers played some solid volleyball moving into the finals, where they dropped a tough decision to the Cudworth Huskies.

Since only the top team at each pre-district tournament qualifies for the district final the Chargers saw their season come to an end.

The Humboldt Public Panthers and the St. Augustine Hawks, meanwhile, traveled to LeRoy for the North East pre-district championships.

The Hawks struggled in the tournament and finished fifth out of five teams, while the Panthers enjoyed a highly successful tournament as they captured the gold medal to move on to the district championship.

The Panthers hosted the district championship in their gym on Nov. 7 as they welcomed the North West champion Cudworth Huskies, the South West champion Watrous Elementary Wolverines and the South East champion Punnichy Elementary Eagles to town.

The Panthers struggled during the round robin portion of the schedule as they finished third, but they still managed to grab the last spot in the semi-final.

In the semi-final the Panthers were matched up against the Cudworth Huskies.

The Huskies put forth a great effort and knocked off the Panthers two sets to none, eliminating the Panthers from the tournament, with the Huskies going on to win the district title.

Jr. “B” Boys

The junior “B” boys did not compete in pre-district championships and instead moved straight into districts, with the top team in each of pool A and B being awarded the pre-district titles.

The tournament was held on Nov. 1 at Humboldt Public and featured six teams, in two pools of three.

Pool A featured a pair of Humboldt based teams as Humboldt Public won the pool, with St. Dominic finishing in second, while in pool B St. Augustine claimed top spot.

The semi-finals featured Humboldt Public topping Strasbourg and St. Augustine knocking off St. Dominic.

In the final St. Augustine knocked off Humboldt Public to claim their third consecutive Jr. “B” Boys district championship.

Jr. Girls

The Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks traveled to Lanigan High, to participate in the North West pre-district tournament, as they looked to claim one of the four spots at the district championship.

The tournament did not go very well for the Mohawks as they ended up finishing in a tie for third, which ended their season.

Sr. Girls

The Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks wrapped up their regular season with an 0-8 record, leaving them in fifth place in the North Central League and on the outside looking in for the league playoffs.

Despite not qualifying for the league playoffs the Mohawks did still move on to 4A Girls West Conference 2 play, which they hosted on Nov. 5.

The Mohawks kicked off their tournament on a high as they knocked off Clavet two sets to one (25-20, 23-25, 15-5) before dropping a tough two sets to none loss to Watrous (25-20, 25-14).

Despite the loss the Mohawks still moved on to the semi-finals where they took on Lanigan.

The Mohawks ran into a tough Lanigan team who were playing some solid volleyball and quickly dropped a two sets to none defeat (25-13, 25-18).

The loss sent the Mohawks into a do-or-die third place game against Watrous, with the winner securing the final regional qualifying spot.

The Mohawks got revenge on Watrous from their round robin showdown in the third place game as they won a nail biter in the first set and cruised in the second set to sweep past Watrous two sets to none (25-23, 25-14), knocking out last year’s provincial silver medalists in the process.

With the win the Mohawks move on to the 4A West Region regional championship, which they will host on Nov. 12.

Sr. Boys

The senior boys Mohawks traveled to Annaheim on Nov. 1 for the North East League playoffs in a three-team tournament.

The Mohawks (0-6) took on the Englefeld Eagles (3-3), with the winner moving on to the finals to take on the Annaheim Rebels (6-0), who received a bye after finishing the regular season in first place.

The Mohawks came into the contest short on confidence as they lost their two previous match ups with the Eagles, winning just one of the previous seven sets between them.

The semi-final did not go much better than the regular season contests between the two teams as the Mohawks could not muster up much offense as they dropped a two sets to none (25-13, 25-17) decision to the Eagles.

With the loss the Mohawks were eliminated from league play.

The Mohawks now turn their attention to provincial conference action as they traveled to Tisdale on Nov. 12 for the five-team 4A Boys East Conference tournament.
