Sixteen concerts in 19 days.

That is just how flamenco guitarist Eric Harper like his tours.

“It’ll be a very jam packed tour. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Harper starts his tour on Jan. 31 and will be in Humboldt on Feb. 4 as part of OSAC’s Star’s for Saskatchewan four part concert series at the Humboldt and District Gallery.

Harper was born in the United States but moved to Portugal with his family when he was 15.

While there his parents signed up their metal loving teen to study at a classical music school to study classical guitar.

Being so close to Spain meant a lot of vacations there which meant a lot of exposure to flamenco style music and “the gypsies playing on the street.”

“I really fell in love with the nylon guitar because before I was a guitar player, I was a drummer.”

Harper always felt classical was missing that rhythmic edge and Flamenco was the perfect marriage of that.

Harper also brought together his love of classic metal and rock into his musical Flamenco mix and describes his style as a mix between Dave Matthews and the Gypsy Kings or Jesse Cook.

When Harper is not touring around with his music he is at home composing music for television and movies. His resume includes shows like “How I Met Your Mother”, “Top Gear”, and “Kitchen Nightmare” to name a few of the over 300 television shows to date that he has worked on.

Even with so much musical credit to his name, Harper says touring is his favourite part of his career.

“Where my heart really lies is performing. I really do enjoy composing for TV and film but I think 10 per cent more of that is performing.”

Harper genuinely enjoys sharing stories of his life and what his songs mean to him and just interacting with the audience, he says.

Harper attended the Organization of Saskatchewan Art Councils showcase last year in hopes of being picked to tour Saskatchewan.

This is his first time touring around the province and he is looking forward to seeing everyone at his concerts and meeting all the friendly Saskatchewan people.

Harper’s concert is sponsored by the Weber Gasper Law Office.
