Currently, 100,000 Saskatchewan people have been diagnosed with diabetes and another 176,000 with prediabetes.

By 2020, 24 per cent of Saskatchewan residents will be living with diabetes.

Over the last 10 years, childhood diabetes diagnosis has increased by 40 per cent and every three minutes, someone is diagnosed in Canada with diabetes, said a Diabetes Canada press release.

“It is time for all Canadians to recognize that diabetes is a leading cause of death by disease and that serious complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and blindness are often associated with poorly managed diabetes,” said the press release.

Funds raised will go towards research, advocacy and programming, including support for “essential child, family and youth programming including D-Camp, Family Camp, and Youth in Action.”
