Three players commit to Melfort Mustangs for 2021-22 season

MELFORT — The Melfort Mustangs have announced three commitments for the 2021-22 season. Max Mills, a 2003-born defenceman from Lloydminster, Alta., spent the last two seasons with the Alberta Elite Hockey League U18 Lloydminster Bobcats.

MELFORT — The Melfort Mustangs have announced three commitments for the 2021-22 season.

Max Mills, a 2003-born defenceman from Lloydminster, Alta., spent the last two seasons with the Alberta Elite Hockey League U18 Lloydminster Bobcats.

The 6-foot-1, 175 pound defenceman had a solid start to the 2020-21 season before it was shut down to COVID-19. In four games, he scored one goal and added four assists for five points. The 2019-20 season saw Mills score once and add an assist in 24 games.

“Max is a skilled defenceman that uses his size very well,” said Trevor Blevins, Mustangs head coach and general manager. “He brings a lot of assets to our blue line and we are happy to welcome him to the organization.”

Will Barrett, a 2003-born defenceman from Calgary, spent the last two seasons with the Alberta Elite Hockey League U18 AAA Airdire CFR Bisons.

“Will brings skill and compete to our program,” Blevins said about the 6-foot-3, 181 pound defenceman. “He has offensive instincts that compliment his size and willingness to defend.”

In five games during the 2020-21 season, Barrett scored one goal and added three assists for four points.  In 2019-20, he scored five goals and added eight assists for 13 points in 30 games.

Cody Laliberte, a 2003-born forward from Spruce Grove, Alta., spent the beginning of the 2020-21 season with the CAC Canadians U18 AAA Program in the Alberta Elite Hockey League U18.

In six games this season, the 6-foot-0, 174 pound forward scored one goal and added three assists for four points. In 2019-20, with the PAC Spruce Grove Saints U18 AA team, he scored 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points in 31 games.

“Cody is a player who plays the game at full speed and we’re happy to bring him into our program,” Blevins said. “He has great hockey IQ and with his offensive capabilities is a player we look forward to seeing produce in our lineup.”
