MIDDLE LAKE — Three Lakes School celebrated an athletic year that saw their team and individual athletes win provincial medals with a banquet.

This year, Three Lakes Avengers athletes made a number of achievements.

Provincially, senior boys and girls basketball placed first in conferences, and senior boys’ and girls’ soccer won silver. The cross-country team took gold, while track and field athletes achieved the school’s first ever bronze team medal.

At the district level, junior girls’ basketball won their championship and athlete Morgan Otsig won gold in badminton.

“Kids here once again outdid themselves,” said principal Trevor Otsig at the June 13 banquet. “We're extremely proud of their accomplishments, both in the wins column and how they've progressed as young adults.”

Grade 12 students Kelsey Parsons and Masson Altrogge won this year's Spirit of the Avengers award. Parsons won other awards for volunteerism, and was senior girls’ soccer and basketball MVP, while Altrogge won awards for most sportsmanlike in senior boys soccer, hardest working in basketball, most dedicated in badminton, and for dedication and performance in track and field.

Their athletic accomplishments didn’t take just one year, said Parsons.

“We've been doing sports since we were in Grade 4, and with the help of our coaches and fellow teammates who push us to be better, work hard and be dedicated.”

Basketball “is always a highlight for me,” she said, but this year was made even more special when she earned provincial gold in the last game of her high school career.

Altrogge said success is “about showing up early in the morning,” and thanked his community.

“It's a big help when you host a local tournament and the community comes out to cheer you on and support you.”

Hosting the provincial volleyball tournament was this year’s standout for Altrogge.

“To have all of the teams travel to Middle Lake to play against us – it was a great tournament,” he said. The eight teams were a “big influx of people to come through our town.”
