Third period blitz allows Calgary to defeat Tisdale Trojans

TISDALE — The Calgary Buffalos stampeded the Tisdale Trojans in the third period, resulting in a 6-4 loss for Tisdale.

The April 25 game was the fourth game for the Trojans at the national Telus Cup in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Just 33 seconds into the first period, Calgary’s Heath Armstrong scored. Then nothing happened until the last two minutes of the period. Calgary’s’ Carter King scored a shorthanded goal, which was quickly followed up by a power play by Tisdale’s Zac Robins and another goal by Tisdale’s Dawson Schaff.

Within the first two minutes of the second period, Tisdale’s Kalen Ukrainetz scored. Around two minutes later, Calgary’s Jayden Grubbe scored a power play. Mackenzie Carson then scored the fourth goal for the Trojans.

The third period was when Calgary rocketed ahead, with a goal by Sam Witt, a shorthanded goal by Justin Ross and a goal by Dylan James.

Bryson Garton of the Trojans stopped 24 out of 30 shots on his next, while Calgary’s Garin Bjorklund stopped 30 out of 34.

The loss puts the Trojans at four points in the tournament, sharing second place with Calgary and the Toronto Young Nationals. The Cantonniers de Magog are on top with six points. The Halifax Macs have two points and the Thunder Bay Kings have zero.

The Trojans’ next game will be April 26 at 9 am Saskatchewan time.
