HUMBOLDT — A strong defence from the Notre Dame Hounds during the Humboldt Broncos home season opener resulted in a victory for the visitors.

The Hounds won the Sept. 14 game 4-1.

It was the Hounds that scored the first goal, six minutes into the game. Seven minutes later, Bronco left winger Issac Liek scored with help from Karter McNarland and Chase Felgueiras.

Leik said that when he got the puck, the main thought in his mind was to get it into the goal.

“It was just shot from the point. Luckily I got the rebound and it popped right out to me and I finished it right in the net,” he said.

Leik was pleased to score his team's first regular season goal.

“It felt really good. It was a really special moment for me.”

The game remained locked in a tie through the second period.

In the third period, the Hounds took advantage of a power play to break the tie and then followed that up with two more goals.

The Broncos made 48 shots throughout the game, while the Hounds only had 19.

“We out-shot them really good but we just got to figure out how to get the puck into the net and after we do that, we're golden,” Leik said.

The Broncos will face the Hounds in Wilcox on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.
