Overtime defeat means quarter-finals continue for Humboldt Broncos

HUMBOLDT — The Estevan Bruins clawed their way to a victory against the Humboldt Broncos by tieing the game late in the third period and winning in third overtime.

HUMBOLDT — The Estevan Bruins clawed their way to a victory against the Humboldt Broncos by tieing the game late in the third period and winning in third overtime.

The 3OT-2 decision means the Broncos will have to face the Bruins at home on Sunday, March 24. The Broncos are still ahead in the quarter-final series 3-2.

Logan Foster of the Broncos scored the first goal of the game, with an assist from Brayden Camrud, eight and a half minutes into the first period. That was followed up by a goal by Owen Guenter, with assists from Josh Patrician and Cole Kirkup four minutes later. The Broncos made 14 shots against the Bruins in the first period, while the Bruins olny made seven.

In the second period there were no changes to the scoreboard as both team fended off 10 shots from each other.

Turner Ripplinger of the Bruins made his team's first goal of the game 21 seconds into the third period. That was followed with a power play goal from the Bruins' Jake Heerspink, who scored to tie the game before the period ended.

In first overtime, the Bruins outshot the Broncos 17 to 9. Tanner Manz scored for the Bruins within the first two minutes of second overtime.
