Melfort Mustangs see first semifinal loss

MELFORT — The Melfort Mustangs faced their first defeat in the semifinal series against the Estevan Bruins. The away game on April 2 saw Estevan win 3-2.

MELFORT — The Melfort Mustangs faced their first defeat in the semifinal series against the Estevan Bruins.

The away game on April 2 saw Estevan win 3-2.

Estevan started the scoring with a shorthanded goal by Turner Ripplinger seven minutes and 20 seconds into the first period. Melfort's Zach Anderson quickly answered with a goal 27 second later. The period hen ended with a goal by Estevan's Tanner Manz.

In the second period, Estevan contiuned its streak with a goal by Tristyn DeRoose. Colin Schmidt of the Mustangs then followed that up with a goal of his own.

Nobody scored in the third period.

Melfort's Noah Giesbrecht stopped 19 out of 22 shots on his net, while his teammate Noah Giesbrecht, who took over 11 minutes and 40 seconds into the second period, stopped 14 out of 14 shots. Estevan's Grant Boldt stopped 17 out of 19 shots.
