MELFORT — The Melfort Mustangs has acquired a goaltender from the Kindersley Klippers.

Steven Bacovsky, a 19 year old from Calgary, was traded in exchange for a player development fee and a fourth round draft pick in 2021.

“We’re happy to be able to acquire Steven. He’s a guy we’ve watched for quite some time and have done research on,” said Trevor Blevins, the Mustangs’ head coach. “He’s a big goalie who moves well and plays aggressive. He plays a similar style to goalies we’ve had in the past.”

In 29 career SJHL games, he posted a 3.52 goals against average and a .858 save percentage. In the 2019-20 season, he had a .885 save percentage playing 20 games with the Kindersley Klippers and a .887 save percentage playing nine games with the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Prior to the SJHL, he played two seasons in the Alberta U18 AAA league with the Aidrie CFR Bisons. He played two games with the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Grande Prairie Storm.

The Mustangs said Bacovsky will join the Mustangs for the start of the 2020-21 season.
