HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Broncos have named their community ambassador
Zach McIntyre is the RBC SJHL Ambassador for the team in the 2019-20 season. The fact was announced at the Jan. 7 home game against Notre Dame.
“Each team in the SJHL gets to nominate a recipient who is involved in their community,” said Jodi Smith, a community manager with RBC. “Zach McIntyre was nominated on his basis of working with the Special O hockey team and being involved with the schools.”
McIntyre was nominated at the end of November, before he was traded to the Melville Millionaires.
“He gets to designate a $1,000 donation to a school within our region that he felt passionately about,” Smith said. “When I spoke to him, he wanted it to go to the HCI [Humboldt Collegiate Institute] breakfast program.”
Cory Popoff, the high school’s principal, was there to accept the cheque.
“It’s just one more step towards being able to sustain a program that is cherished by all of our students at HCI.”
Smith said RBC was pleased to present the award to McIntyre.
“Anytime that we have youth and role models, you know, such as the Humboldt Broncos that are out and about in the community, I think it's fantastic that they're recognized for their community involvement.”
