Royals clinch regular season title

Vs. Saskatoon Dodgers

A strong night both offensively and defensively were enough to lead the Marysburg Royals to a 13-4 win over the Saskatoon Dodgers on a rare Saturday night contest in Saskatoon on July 21.

Brody Frerichs picked up the win on the mound for the Red Sox throwing five strong innings, before handing the ball over the Thomas Bollefer, who threw two strong in relief.

Behind the pair of Frerichs and Bollefer, the Royals’ defense was steady, committing just one error and using a diving catch by Adam Gerwing to turn a double play.

Offensively the Royals were led by the pair of Curtis Strueby and John Lawrence, with Strueby picking up three hits and two runs batted in, while Lawrence drove in four runs.

 

Vs. Saskatoon Hoppers

The Marysburg Royals’ offense was firing on all cylinders in the club’s 15-0 win over the Saskatoon Hoppers on July 23 in Saskatoon.

Nick Anderson picked up the win on the mound for the Royals pitching four shutout innings, before Thomas Bollefer pitched a shutout fifth in relief.

The Royals’ defense also helped out the pair of Anderson and Bollefer as they played a clean defensive game, committing no errors.

Offensively the Royals belted out 16 hits, thanks a quartet from Curtis Strueby.

Brent Puetz also chipped in offensively for the Royals smacking a grand slam in the fourth inning.

With the win the Royals clinched the league pennant, giving the small town club seven regular season pennants in nine years.

 

Vs. Saskatoon Outlaws

The Marysburg Royals used a dynamic offense to edge passed the Saskatoon Outlaws 10-9 in SSBL action from Saskatoon on July 23.

Bollefer picked up the win on the mound for the Royals pitching three strong innings in relief of starter Thomas Lessmeister.

The second year Royal lasted just three innings, giving up seven runs, with only three earned as the Royals’ defense committed three errors.

Puetz picked up the save, pitching the seventh.

While the Royals defense struggled to a three error night, their offense was once again on fire pounding out 12 hits to earn the win.

Rylan Korte, Adam Gerwing, Brett Doepker, and Luke Strueby each had two hits, as the quartet combined for eight of the Royals’ 12 hits.

With 12 hits against the Outlaws, the Royals finished their July 23 doubleheader against the Outlaws and Hoppers with 28 hits, and 25 runs.

 

Outlook

Thanks to their two wins, the Royals improve their record to 14-1 on the season, with the club having already clinched top spot in the SSBL league standings.

The wins also pushed the Royals’ league winning streak to 13 games.

The Royals will look to extend their winning streak to 14 when they return to the diamond on July 29 for a contest against the Stallions.
