Athletes from all four Humboldt based schools competed in the district track and field championships on May 22 in Saskatoon, with each school enjoying varying levels of success.
The competition featured athletes from 42 schools, where they broke 19 district titles, with three of those coming from Humboldt athletes.
Humboldt Collegiate
The Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks enjoyed an excellent trip to districts as they picked up a second place finish in the team points competition.
The Mohawks sent 45 athletes to compete in individual events, where they enjoyed excellent results posting a number of top three finishes, including 20 firsts, 17 seconds, and 13 thirds.
The Mohawks also enjoyed a number of top three finishes in individual points races as well, claiming second and third in both midget boys and girls competitions.
While the Mohawks were busy collecting top three finishes, the blue and gold were also busy collecting district records, as Jay Eichorst set a new record in midget boys 100m hurdles, Kody McGinn set a new midget boys long jump record, and Rylan Marianchuk set a new senior boys quadathon record.
Thanks to their strong performances the Mohawks qualified for 37 individual events at the provincial championships on May 1-2 in Prince Albert, as the top two finishers in each event booked a provincial berth.
Humboldt Public
Things did not quite go as well for the Humboldt Public Panthers as they finished in a tie for 37th place in the team points competition.
The Panthers entered the district championships with seven athletes competing in individual events, where they enjoyed decent results posting two-second place finishes.
The Panthers failed to finish with any athletes at the top of the individual points competition, with none of their athletes reaching the top ten.
Unfortunately for the Panthers they will not be sending any athletes to the provincial championships as they competed in the bantam and peewee categories, which are not provincial events.
St. Dominic
The St. Dominic Chargers meanwhile, enjoyed slightly greater results as they finished 26th in team points.
The Chargers entered the district championships with 17 athletes competing in individual events, where they enjoyed solid results posting two firsts, three seconds, and four thirds.
Despite the excellent results, the Chargers did not see many of their athletes climb into the top ten in individual points, as they managed only a second place finish in bantam girls action.
While the Chargers enjoyed five top two finishes in individual events, much like the Panthers, they are ineligible to qualify any athletes for the provincial championships.
St. Augustine
The St. Augustine Hawks wrapped up their track season with a solid result in the team points competition as they finished 18th.
The Hawks were boosted by 12 athletes competing in individual events, where they enjoyed a great deal of success claiming two firsts, three seconds, and five thirds.
While the Hawks enjoyed success in individual events, they enjoyed much less so in individual points competition, as they managed just a single podium, claiming a tie for third in bantam boys action.
The Hawks, like the Panthers and Chargers saw their season come to an end as they could not qualify for provincials.
