The Battlefords North Stars will have a familiar Humboldt face behind their bench next season, as the North Stars announced Brayden Klimosko as their new head coach and general manager.
Klimosko, a native of Humboldt, spent three full seasons playing in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, all with the Humboldt Broncos, helping lead his hometown to an RBC Cup, Anavet Cup, and two league championships.
After his playing career ended Klimosko took a few seasons off, before returning to the Broncos organization serving as assistant coach, assistant general manager and marketing director during his four seasons with the green and gold.
During his time in Humboldt Klimosko served under each of Humboldt’s last three coaches; Dean Brockman, Ryan Smith, and Darcy Haugan.
Upon the completion of the 2016-2017 SJHL season, Klimosko announced he was leaving the club after accepting a position with the Drumheller Dragons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he served under former North Stars head coach Kevin Hasselberg
Klimosko now joins a North Stars club fresh off a second place finish in the regular season and a trip to the league semi-final.
While the 30-year-old Humboldt native joins one of the top SJHL clubs over the past few seasons, he will have his hands full as he looks to replace a number of key contributors, including last season’s scoring champion and Most Valuable Player Layne Young.
Klimosko becomes the fourth head coach of the North Stars in the last four seasons after Hasselberg, Nate Bedford, and Brandon Heck.
