Hammerheads put the finishing touches on their 2018 swimming season with a bang as they picked up 75 medals at the provincial swim meet in Estevan on July 28.

The club, which sent 35 swimmers to the competition, picked up 35 individual race medals, as well as 40 relay medals.

A 36th Hammerhead, Tia Zimmerman, also qualified for the provincial meet, but was unable to attend as she gets set for the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Nova Scotia early this month.

The contingent of 35 Hammerheads was the second largest behind Estevan’s 44.

Estevan’s large contingent helped them claim the overall points title, while Watrous took home the small team title.

Estevan’s team points title also helped the south pick up the combined points title, as the south outscored the north 3,626-2,941.

Gabriel Babagonio and Darren Romanuik led the charge for the Hammerheads, as the pair combined to win 17 gold and one silver.

Thanks to Babagonio’s nine golds, and Romanuik’s eight golds and a silver, the pair were able to each claim individual high point
trophies, with Babagonio collecting the 15-17 male trophy with 65 points, and Romanuik the 13-14 male trophy with 63 points.

Charlize Parish joined Gabriel and Romanuik as nine medal winners, after claiming five gold, three silver, and one bronze medal in 13-14 female action.

Garrett Brown and Sophia Babagonio added six medals each as Brown picked up a gold, three silver, and two bronze in 15-17 male competition, while Sophia collected six bronze medals in 9-10 female action.

Lauren Hinz and Abbey McLarty each added five medals, with Hinz claiming three gold and two silvers in 15-17 female races, while McLarty added one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals in 9-10 female action.

Cohen Gasper’s two gold, one silver, and one bronze in 7-8 male competition and Jorja Yeager’s three silver and one bronze in 7-8 female competition added four medals each for the Hammerheads, while Rebecca Gabriel’s one silver, and two bronze in 7-8 female action and Ashley Hinz’s three bronze in 11-12 competition added another six.

Jordan Nienaber (15-17 female), Jarek Zimmerman (9-10 male), Dallin Fraser (13-14 male), Megan Brooks (15-17 female), Zayda Shepherd (11-12 female), and Cuyler Brooks (11-12 male) each added two medals for the Hammerheads, as the sextet combined to collect five silver and seven bronze medals.

Reed Cropper (7-8 male), Katie MacLean (open relay), Sabrina MacLean (11-12 female), Brooklyn Manz (9-10 female), Chase Hall (13-14 male), and Aidra Anglestad (9-10 female), rounded out the Hammerhead’s medal winners as the sextet combined for one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.

With provincials now in the books the Hammerheads will turn their attention to their season wrap up in September and the 2019 season.
