Broncos reshuffle executive

After filling the board of directors for the first time in many years at their August annual general meeting (AGM), the Humboldt Broncos’ board will have a new look for the 2018-2019 season.

After filling the board of directors for the first time in many years at their August annual general meeting (AGM), the Humboldt Broncos’ board will have a new look for the 2018-2019 season.

After seeing seven new faces join the board after the August AGM, the Broncos held their first meeting with the new board on Aug. 21, where they held elections for each of the organizations key executive positions.

With Randy MacLean announcing he would be leaving the board in August, and Kevin Garinger and Darrin Duell deciding not to seek re-election, both will remain on the board, the Broncos’ meeting saw the club needing to replace each of their vice-president, president, and treasurer positions.

“The staff and board of directors of the Humboldt Broncos would like to extend their deepest gratitude to these five individuals (including Dalyn Graf and Colby Jaskin who served on the board last season) for their service to the club over the past few years, particularly in recent months, which were undoubtedly the most trying, stressful and demanding the team has ever endured,” said the club in a press release.

After an election process, the new executive of the Broncos was formed.

Former president Jamie Brockman will be returning to his post after a one season break, while Maury Simoneau will serve as his vice-president.

“I made a decision prior to the AGM that I would put my name forward to join the Humboldt Broncos’ board of directors,” said Brockman, who was president of the organization from 2012 until August of 2017, in the release.

“I have experience from my previous five years on the board that can and will help move this organization forward.”

While the decision was made early for Brockman to seek re-election to the board, the former and now current president admitted that it was not on his radar to seek re-election as president, but said things can change quite quickly.

“I have a lot of confidence in our current board of directors because these people also want to help, so I feel I have a great support network, and look forward to moving the team forward,” he said.

Moving forward Brockman says he is motivated by the desire to do what he can to ensure that the Broncos continue to be viable and strong in the City of Humboldt and surrounding area.

“With that said, I want to express my extreme gratitude to the past board of directors along with the executive from last year for stepping up the way they did - their lives were also turned upside down and I am thankful for the work they did,” he said in the release.

Curtis Wacker and Lee Dufort round out the four person executive, with Wacker holding the position of treasurer, and Dufort the role of secretary.

The Broncos will head into the 2018-2019 season with a 12-person board including five returnees and seven faces who were not on the board last season.
