A cross-country skiing provincial meet hosted by the Carlton Trail Ski Club saw every local competitor place within the top four.

There were 85 racers from all over the province at the Jan. 13 event at the Humboldt Golf Club.

“I was really happy with everybody's performance,” said Troy Gullacher, the head coach of the Ski Fast race team. “They were very determined. They skied well, and the overall performance excellent.”

Brayden Nivon placed second in the midget boys category, Ethan Fleischhacker was third among midget boys, Byrn Fleischhacker placed third among the atom girls, Claire Gullacher was third among midget girls, and Olivia Cropper placed fourth among the bantam girls.

“We had one skier that had her first race, and she held her own, she did really good,” Gullacher said. “Our three older skiers, they all made the podium, so we're super proud about that.”

The ski team will go to  Prince Albert in two weeks for a one day race,  Saskatoon for a two day race and Regina for a two day before the finals come up.

“I want to continue to build their endurance so that the race distance doesn't feel so difficult and also clean up some technique work that we have and continue to work on a race strategy,” Gullacher said.

The older members of the race team didn’t compete, as they focused on their hosting duties

“We really want to thank all of the volunteers that came out,”  Gullacher said. “We needed I believe, 45 volunteers and every position got filled, so without that we would never be able to host a race.”
