LEROY — A LeRoy youth is competing in the junior boys’ golf provincial championship.

Carter Timmerman is one of 43 players at Swift Current's Elmwood Golf Club playing in the junior championship, which started July 14.

The juniors are the first stop on the 2020 provincial championship schedule.

“Golf Saskatchewan has worked very closely with the Government of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and other golf industry stakeholders to outline how championships can be played safely and competitively at various courses,” said Steve Ryde, Golf Saskatchewan’s tournament director.

“The entire team at Elmwood Golf Club has also been fantastic to work with leading up to what should be a great week of junior golf.”

Tee times will be placed 10 minutes apart starting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rounds two and three of the 54-hole championship will begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Provincial events usually determine national team rosters but Golf Canada has cancelled all national championships due to COVID-19.

The 2019 junior boys champion, Jace Carlisle, aged out last year. The 2018 champion, Josh Nagy, is in the field after missing last year's event due to a scheduling conflict. Regina's Autumn Neiszner is the defending female champion.
