Humboldt Karate Club earns hardware at provincials

HUMBOLDT — With eight of its members receiving medals, the Humboldt Karate Club had a strong showing at the provincial spring tournament it hosted at Humboldt Public School last weekend.

HUMBOLDT — With eight of its members receiving medals, the Humboldt Karate Club had a strong showing at the provincial spring tournament it hosted at Humboldt Public School last weekend.

Bryce Nagy, who’s not only the sensei of the Humboldt club but also a student at Saskatoon’s Midwest Karate, won bold in adult male black belt kumite, which is the part of karate where opponents spar against an adversary. He also won a silver in adult male black belt kata, which is a set of choreographed movements.

Danica Leonard won two gold, in the female 11 to 13 intermediate kata and kumite categories.

Cazton Natlazo won gold in male 11 to 13 novice kumite, and bronze in kata.

The recipient of the Dick Jack Memorial Sportsmanship Award was Cameron Cline. He also won gold in adult male intermediate kumite, and bronze in kata.

Bryce Bergerman won gold in male 10 and under novice kata, while Baden Gilbertson won silver in kumite in the same category.

In the female 10 and under intermediate kata category, Eliot Cline won bronze, while Erin Cline won bronze in the female 11-13 advanced kata.
