Humboldt Broncos, Nipawin Hawks close to being eliminated, Melfort Mustangs ahead

EAST CENTRAL — The Humboldt Broncos and Nipawin Hawks are just one loss away from being eliminated from the playoffs, while the Melfort Mustangs lead their series 2-1.

 

Broncos vs. Bombers

The Humboldt Broncos were defeated 6-1 in game three of the series against the Flin Flon Bombers.

In the first period of the March 10 game, Flin Flon’s Cole Rafuse scored, while Donavan Houle-Villeneuve got a power play goal.

In the second period, the Bombers’ Tristan Lemyre and Chase Haygarth got two more goals in before the Broncos’ Doug Scott got his team’s first and only goal during a power play, with help from Luke Spadafora and Logan Kurki.

Easton Haygarth and Dane Hirst sealed the deal for Flin Flon with two power play goals.

 

Mustangs vs. Bruins

The Melfort Mustangs defeated the Estevan Bruins 2-1 during an overtime period.

The first period of the March 10 game saw no goals. Estevan’s Jayden Davis scored in the second. Melfort’s Vaclav Prospal scored in the third and Andrew Hunt sealed the deal almost halfway through the overtime period.

 

Hawks vs. North Stars

The Nipawin Hawks lost their March 10 engagement against the Battlefords North Stars 4-2.

Battlefords’ Seth Summers scored during the first period.

In the second, Steven Kesslering of the North Stars scored, followed by two goals made by Nipawin’s Brodie Girod and Evan Bortis.

The third period saw a goal by the Battlefords’ Ben Hiltz and an empty netter by Elijah Loon-Stewardson.
