End of the season for Melfort Mustangs as Battlefords win 7-2

MELFORT — The season is over for the Melfort Mustangs. With a 7-2 decision, the Battlefords North Stars secured their fourth win in the seven-game final series – and with it, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Canalta Cup.

MELFORT — The season is over for the Melfort Mustangs.

With a 7-2 decision, the Battlefords North Stars secured their fourth win in the seven-game final series – and with it, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Canalta Cup.

The first goal of the game, almost six minutes in, was scored by Melfort's Justin Ball. After that, Battlefords scored three times: two from Braydon Buziak and a power play goal by Quintin Loon-Stewardson.

Things continued to go the North Stars' way in the second period. They scored with a goal from Macgregor Sinclair. Melfort then took advantage of a power play to get a goal by Tanner Zentner. Loon-Stewardson then finished the period off with another goal for Battlefords.

In the third period, the Battlefords grew their lead with a power play goal by Austin Shumanski and an empty netter by Sinclair.

Melfort's Noah Giesbrecht stopped 29 out of 35 shots, while Battlefords' Joel Grzybowski stopped 32 out of 34.
