Battlefords defeats Melfort 4-2 in third game of finals

MELFORT — After matching each other in score in the first half of the game, the Melfort Mustangs lost the third game of the finals after the Battlefords North Stars made a breakthrough late in the second period.

MELFORT — After matching each other in score in the first half of the game, the Melfort Mustangs lost the third game of the finals after the Battlefords North Stars made a breakthrough late in the second period.

The final score for Melfort's first home game of the finals was 4-2.

Tyson Meyers of the Mustangs was the first to move the score clock, with help from Justin Ball. Battlefords then replied with a goal of their own made by Austin Becker.

In the second, the Battlefords' Regan Doig scored to get his team ahead. Ball then tied up the game. In the last moments of the period, Braydon Buziak scored for the Battlefords.

Battlefords then secured their victory in the third period with a goal by Quintin Loon-Stewardson.

Shawn Parkinson of the Mustangs stopped 21 of out 23 shots, while his partner Noah Giesbrecht stopped six out of eight shots. Their counterpart Joel Grzybowski stopped 28 out of 30 shots.
