HUMBOLDT — Being head coach of the Humboldt Broncos is no longer an interim role for Scott Barney. He has signed a contract to continue the role for three more seasons.

“When he took over to finish off the last half of the season, he was spectacular,” said Jamie Brockman, the team’s president. “We were really impressed with his desire to succeed. He was all-in with the organization.”

Brockman said the organization was impressed that Barney brought on experienced Ontario Hockey League coach Troy Smith as an assistant coach.

“We just like the qualities that Scott brings to the table and we're really excited to have him in the family join our community and organization and we're pumped to see what he can do for us moving forward.”

Barney said in a release he was pleased the Broncos believed in him and gave him this opportunity to continue on as head coach.

“I am ready and eager for the challenge ahead to work with the club,” he said. “I look forward to moving my family to this community and starting this new chapter in our lives.”
