Two men arrested by serious and organized crime unit appear in Regina and Saskatoon court

Two men arrested by the Saskatchewan RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime unit made more court appearances in Regina and Saskatoon.

Kurt Elliott Miller, 39, appeared in Regina Provincial Court on May 20 and the case against him was waived from Regina to Saskatoon Provincial Court. He remains in custody.

Mitch Hutchinson, 49, appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court for a bail hearing on May 21 and again on May 22. He remains in custody.

The two men face numerous charges after a major drug bust on a rural property 27 kilometres north of Biggar in the RM of Glenside, that resulted in an RCMP officer being shot when executing the search warrant May 15.

RCMP searched the home, two outbuildings and two vehicles on the property. They seized a significant amount of drugs including methamphetamine, fentanyl, GHB also known as the date-rape drug, Xanax pills, and LSD.

During the search they found $16,080 in Canadian currency, two money counters, scales, packaging for drugs, eight cell phones, several computers, and tablets. Several weapons were also discovered, including a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun, a spent light anti-tank weapon, a revolver and body armour.

Hutchinson is charged with possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, alazopram (Xanax), gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking marijuana, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and 18 firearms-related offences.

His co-accused, Kurt Elliot Miller, also of Glenside, was arrested during a traffic stop in Regina on May 14. He was charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and breach of probation.

In connection to the rural property search north of Biggar, Miller was charged with numerous drug-related offences including possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, alazopram (Xanax), gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), Iysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) for the purpose of trafficking, possessing proceeds of crime over $5,000 and 16 firearms-related charges.

The officer who was shot had non life-threatening injuries and was treated by members of the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Medical Response Team (EMRT). No RCMP officers fired back.

Miller is scheduled to appear next in Saskatoon Provincial Court on May 26.

Hutchinson is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on May 29.
