Ministerial message: How to live unafraid

In the last two months there has been an invisible enemy that is running rampantly and gripping the hearts of many across the globe. The rate at which it has been spreading throughout the earth has been quicker than the dreaded COVID-19. This enemy is called fear.

At the moment you cannot turn on the news, view social media or browse the web without seeing information that could easily invoke panic or fear to the human spirit. The human population is desperately trying to find a way out of this global pandemic and the fear it brings. But with the magnitude of this world crisis, is it even possible to live without fear?

In Matthew 7:24-25 (NLT) Jesus said, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”

This is the scripture that came to mind as I watched the horrific videos showing the devastation that Hurricane Dorian did to the nation of the Bahamas some months ago. Watching several videos of the storm footage moved my heart for the Bahamian people.

Life brings storms. It can bring devastation, but Jesus promises that anyone who listens to His teachings is like a wise man who builds a house on a solid rock. When challenges or trials come and it looks like there is no way out or no way through, Jesus says that the wise man’s house does not collapse, even in the most terrible of storms. But Jesus puts a condition on this promise. He says the house will not collapse if His teachings are listened and adhered to.

To live a life without fear requires being very intentional. It requires living by faith. It means basing your beliefs and hopes on a solid foundation. The Bible says that the word of God lasts forever. The word of God and His teachings position themselves to be the best quality material to use for a rock solid foundation. And a rock solid foundation is key to living a life without fear when the storms come.

The Lord Jesus Christ is Himself our “Rock” of Salvation. He is your guarantee to remaining on your feet even after a treacherous storm. If you would like to make Him your “Rock” solid foundation I would invite you to say this prayer after me.

Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that you raised Him from the dead. I repent of my sin. Forgive me, wash and cleanse me. Thank you for enabling me to stand strong in the midst of any storm because you are my rock solid foundation. Because of that, I need not worry and I need not be afraid. Amen.
