December is here! Even in this time of pandemic, friends and family are beginning to share with each other holiday cheer!
Even though we are in the midst of the second COVID-19 wave, I’m finding that there are many blessings around us: the weather is beautiful; phones, Zoom, and the internet is enabling us to stay in touch with our friends and family; and Christmas is right around the corner.
Christmas has normally been a time for us to gather with our loved ones. This year, unfortunately, we will not be able to do this as freely as before. In spite of this, Christmas is a special time for Christians. At Christmas we celebrate Christ coming into the world! We celebrate that through Christ our world can, and does, change for the better.
A pandemic cannot change this eternal truth. Even though 2020 has been a turbulent year, Christmas remains a blessing for us: Christmas reminds us that God is remaining faithful to His promise to redeem our broken world.
During the Eucharistic rite, Anglicans proclaim: “Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again.”
In sending Jesus to us, God shows us that he cares about us and will not leave us to navigate the hardships of this world alone.
