Van occupants safe after engine compartment fire

MELFORT — All occupants of a van driving down Highway 41 west of Melfort are safe after an fire ignited in the engine compartment.

The event took place on Highway 41 west of Melfort on the morning of July 10. The Melfort Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 11:19 am.

The driver was able to safely stop the vehicle and exit along with the two passengers.

When the fire department arrived, they determined the van sustained a mechanical event that resulted in the ignition of the small fire.

The fire department said they managed the traffic so firefighters were protected while permitting the passage of highway traffic in a controlled manner. Firefighters then further suppressed and extinguished the fire.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.
