TISDALE — A vehicle in Tisdale was broken into and had debit cards and money stolen.

The theft occurred on June 11.

An individual was arrested in connection to the theft on June 13 and is being charged with possession of stolen property and committing fraud under $5,000.

“That person went on to use the debit card and we tracked it back to them,” said Cpl. Mike Benjamin with the Tisdale detachment with the RCMP.

The detachment is using the opportunity to remind the community to lock up their vehicles and not leave valuables inside. In this situation the car was unlocked.

“We sent this message out before for exactly this reason. People are going through unlocked vehicles and stealing valuables like debit cards, credit cards, cash, ID – these are targets of opportunity, really. Something as simple as don’t leave your wallet or purse in your vehicle if you’re going to work or even outside the house – lock your vehicles. It’s very important.

From June 5 to 19 the detachment received 52 calls for service. These included two impaired drivers, two complaints under the Child Welfare Act, and one missing youth who was located.
