HUMBOLDT — Carlton Trail College is asking employers to take a 15-minute survey as part of project to better understand the labour market at a regional level.

Employers across the region are being asked about their current and projected human resource needs, the demographics of their workforce, recruitment strategies and challenges as well as their perspective on candidate skills, education and training.

Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross, Carlton Trail College’s CEO, said the project is to better inform their own programs at the college.

“At the end of the day, we’re really here to support the labour market needs in our region,” said Romanyszyn-Cross. “We currently do engage with business and industries but this is a bit more of an in-depth survey, for lack of a better word, to gain a better understanding of what some of the needs might be in this area.”

She said the survey by having this information the college can ensure the college’s courses will continue to meet the needs of the market, even if that means implementing new courses.

The Regional Needs Assessment Employer Survey is available online at Carlton Trail College’s website from Oct. 1 to 25. Regional businesses, whether large and small, are encouraged to participate.

Staff will also be reaching out to various employers and business organizations to encourage participation. Survey data will be analyzed and compiled into a report.

“I think at the end of the day, our role as a college is here to serve the labour market needs of our region and I think this information will prove to be invaluable to us to better focus on what we are doing here at the post-secondary institution,” Romanyszyn-Cross said.
