RM of Torch River residents being told to prepare to evacuate due to fire

RM OF TORCH RIVER — RM of Torch River residents are being told by the province to be prepared to evacuate due to the fire in the Fort à la Corne forest. “The public is being asked to avoid travel in the area,” said SaskAlert May 17 .

RM OF TORCH RIVER — RM of Torch River residents are being told by the province to be prepared to evacuate due to the fire in the Fort à la Corne forest.

“The public is being asked to avoid travel in the area,” said SaskAlert May 17. “Follow directions of local authorities. Close windows, doors and vents, and take all necessary precautions.”

Authorities said the wildfire is currently burning along the southwest edge of the RM of Torch River, from Range Road 2185 west to Range Road 2220.

The fire started May 8. As of May 17 at 4:44 p.m. the fire is estimated to be 28,847 hectares – about 288.47 square kilometres. For comparison's sake, the City of Saskatoon is 228.13 square kilometres.
