MUENSTER — A chain reaction caused by a truck at the intersection of Highway 5 and Muenster’s College Avenue caused a power pole to fall on a house.

“The [Humboldt] Co-op was hauling a bin and caught an overhead line crossing Highway 5 right at the Muenster entrance,” said Darrell Wickenhauser, the Humboldt Fire Department’s deputy chief.

“What it ended up doing was it pulled a power pole off about two blocks in the Town of Muenster over onto a house.”

The incident happened at around 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 29.

As there were children in the house, the Humboldt and Muenster Fire Departments took precautionary measures and cleared the cleared the streets, while SaskPower cut the power to the line. Nobody was injured.

In a media release, the Humboldt Co-op said the route along Highway 5 their bin mover truck was driving on is one they use on a regular basis. They added that the bin mover was following the highline route as instructed by SaskPower and all permits were in place to deliver the bin.

“Something must have happened to the cable line, possibly from the extreme winds we have been having,” said Brent Walker, the co-op’s general manager. “Whatever caused this incident has yet to be determined.”
