HUMBOLDT — A power line that’s in the way of expansion at the airport will be moved.

The city will pay for half of the $25,000 cost, while the province’s Community Airport Partnership (CAP) grant will pay for the other half.

The decision was made at Humboldt’s May 25 council meeting.

This was not anticipated in the city’s budget, but Peter Bergquist, the director of public works, identified an interpretation error in the application process that caused the province to reverse a previous rejection.

“Members from the CAP grant have conveyed that they are allowing the City to fund 50 per cent of the line relocation for this year only,” said a report to council. “This is the best opportunity to relocate the line and allow further development at the airport with minimized expense to the city.”

The city is working with SaskPower on the project, as the power line has to be replaced to meet current standards.

The report to council said relocating the power lines will allow three lots to have hangars built on them.

“Over the last year, unanticipated interest for lease lots has occurred. Two of the lots obstructed by poles have recently been leased and are awaiting the power line relocation. The third lot has interest.”
