Police arrest five in Wakaw, seize suspected meth

WAKAW, MELFORT — A series of arrests and searches in Wakaw and Melfort resulted in five being arrested and 29 grams of what’s suspected by the police to be methamphetamine seized.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team arrested two men and three women in a vehicle at the Shell Gas Station near Wakaw on Jan. 30. As well, with the help of the Melfort RCMP, the team executed a search warrant at a home on Stovel Avenue in Melfort.

As a result of the arrests and subsequent search, 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine, other drug paraphernalia and a replica handgun were seized.

Forty-five year old Barkley Swenson of Melfort has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon while prohibited and failure to comply with an undertaking. He is in custody and will to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Feb. 6.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be forthcoming.
