School is just around the corner and PARTNER’S Family Services has been hard at work in recent weeks collecting school supplies to get children ready to go back.

The three-week campaign looked for donations of school supplies including binders, pencils, pencil crayons, paper, and notebooks among others, at either the Bargain Shop, Office Experts, or PARTNER’S themselves, with the goal being to help provide students with supplies for the coming school year.

“It’s a need that we’ve seen in the community for the last couple of years and it’s something that we’ve been trying to help out with so that the school year is definitely more of a positive for some kids,” says Teryn Ulriksen with PARTNER’S.

This year, the drive was able to collect enough supplies for 41 kids, which is down a little from last year, says Ulriksen, who notes that it is still nice to see so many people willing to help.

“It’s nice to see that there are people out there that will help, that will be there to help us bring that need out there for families and that we can support those families that are looking for that support. It’s pretty easy to go down somewhere and grab just a couple things and throw it in the supply box. If everybody does that it’s really helpful.”

Ulriksen says the project is a great way to provide for those families.

“It fits with our mandate of helping people, caring for people, bridging those resources and helping people to have that positive outcome.”

Ulriksen notes the drive was aimed at supplying the main school supplies, and they were not able to supply shoes, water bottles or other specialty items, but says it will give a lot of kids a good start.
