Mark of Excellence

Nominations are open for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce’s Mark of Excellence awards.

Ten awards will be presented at the 20th anniversary of the event, held March 20 and hosted by the chamber.

“It’s important that businesses are recognized for excellence in the many endeavours that are required for them to be in business,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the chamber’s executive director.

“It’s not just about customer service that’s important, it not just about professional dealings between businesses, it’s about the whole package and when you do all of it well, your business succeeds.”

The Humboldt Journal will also present the citizen of the year and junior citizen of the year.

“Celebrating the people of our community is one of the responsibilities of the local newspaper,” said Valerie Durnin, the Journal’spublisher. “This award allows us to take that one step further by asking the community to nominate people they think have made extraordinary contributions.”

The chamber will present two new awards this year. The new inclusive employer award is hosted by RBC.

“Humboldt’s a great place because of the way it’s very inclusive to people and we just want to make sure that those that do it well are recognized for that effort,” Fitzpatrick said.

The safety leadership award is sponsored by WorkSafe Saskatchewan.

Fitzpatrick said workplace safety is important. “It’s something that we need to recognize, that there are companies that are profitable, they are making money and they are still protecting their staff and their clients by enforcing a safe environment to work in.”

Returning awards are the community merit award, community involvement award, entrepreneur of the year award, growth and expansion award, marketing award, new business venture award, and service award. The evening will also see another business inducted into the  business hall of fame.

For the 10 business awards, nomination forms can be downloaded from the chamber’s website. Those having any problems can contact the chamber for help. Deadline to nominate businesses is Jan. 15.

As for the two citizen of the year awards, nomination forms can be picked up at the Journal office, or can be sent via email. Deadline for entries is Jan. 15.
