HUMBOLDT — Know of somebody that’s made an extraordinary contribution to Humboldt and area in the past year?

Nominations are open for Humboldt’s Citizen of the Year and Junior Citizen of the Year for 2021. The two awards are organized by the Humboldt Journal annually.

“It’s important to recognize those that put their all into improving our community,” said Devan Tasa, the Journal’s publisher. “Volunteerism like that keeps our community going.”

Nominations can be filled out online at humboldtjournal.ca/citizen-of-the-year, or a form can be picked up at the Humboldt Journal office, which has recently moved and now is at 1605 Eighth Avenue (Highway 5). Nominations are due on Thursday, Feb. 11.

“Taking the time to fill out a nomination is the least we can do for those that work endless hours to make our community even better,” Tasa said.

Those receiving the awards will then be selected by a group of judges and announced at the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce’s Mark of Excellence awards on Wednesday, March 31.

In 2020 Nestor Trach, a long-time educator and volunteer, was Citizen of the Year, while Tianna Zimmerman, a Special Olympics athlete who participated in the world games, was Junior Citizen of the Year.
