NIPAWIN — Nipawin Town Council gathered on Zoom to usher in the new year with their first council meeting of 2021

Chief Administrative Officer Barry Elliott welcomed a new Director of Works, Utilities, and Engineering to the staff during this first meeting on Jan. 11.

Jamie Fast comes to the town office from CN Rail with an extensive background in management and has been orienting over the last week to his new role with the former director. Other directors and staff will also play a role in Fast’s orientation, which Elliott said is very much appreciated.

“I expect that over the next while, there's going to be a lot of effort from everyone to help [Fast] to get comfortable in the role.”

Mayor Rennie Harper also took time during the meeting to honour some of the long time staff at the Town of Nipawin. While COVID-19 has eliminated any kind of celebrations that would normally take place to celebrate these staff members, it was Harper’s pleasure to acknowledge them over Zoom, she said.

Twenty-eight employees were honoured by Harper with employees ranging from 30-year awards to five-year awards.
