LANIGAN — A new physician is coming to Lanigan.

Dr. Mohd Enamul Hoque will be providing Primary Health Care services out of the Lanigan and District Medical Clinic, Lanigan Integrated Hospital and Central Parkland Lodge as of Monday, Aug. 17.

According to the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Hoque came to Canada in October 2010 after working overseas. He started practicing at the Leader Hospital, clinic and two Seniors Homes as a family physician. He also worked as a Surgical Assistant from June 2018 to June 2019 at the Swift Current hospital.

Hoque with be joined with his wife and three children, aged 14, 12 and six.

“He looks forward to being a part of the community and also the ability that working in Saskatchewan provides to enjoy some of his hobbies including fishing, hunting and gardening,” the SHA said.

Dr. Kevin Wasko, the SHA’s Physician Executive for Integrated Rural Health, said reduced emergency room services will continue in the community due to ongoing recruitment challenges for other medical professions.

“In Lanigan, one of the challenges with service resumption is related to recruitment. In the interim, the SHA is exploring all options to provide emergency services in the community which may include utilizing virtual care in the emergency room setting,” he said.

The SHA said many factors like adequate human resources, skill enhancement and training, separation of staff and the physical separation of space, and the overall status of COVID-19 in the province must be taken into consideration when to comes to restoring emergency room services.
