LANIGAN — The Horizon School Division has settled on a location for Lanigan’s new school, which will be built on division property between the high school and elementary school.

Once built, the facility will consolidate the existing schools.

This comes as the division continues discussions around the floor plan of the building, which is expected to open in 2023-24.

“We knew it was going to be at the old site where the current buildings are now, we were just still working through where it will be located on the site,” said Kevin Garinger, Horizon School Division’s director of education.

“It will be between the two schools, essentially, and oriented in such a way that will keep both schools operational until the building is built and we can have them torn down after that.”

The two-level facility will be built to be used by 400-450 students, making it comparable in size to the Rosthern Community School or Hudson Bay Community School.

The working group composed of involved parties will reconvene on May 13 to discuss additional features.
