MELFORT — Melfort MLA Todd Goudy said he’s excited to serve as the new legislative secretary to the premier.

Goudy received the position as part of a cabinet shuffle announced by the province on Aug. 13.

The MLA said he’s not sure what all his new job will entail, but he expects he will be taught it in the days to come.

“I’ll be having a lot of briefing meetings,” Goudy said. “Just stepping in as an MLA was overwhelming… It’s shocking how well they support you and teach you if you got two ears and you’re ready to learn. It’s amazing how they can turn someone from rural Saskatchewan to someone who is very comfortable with positions in Regina.”

He said he isn’t sure why he got the promotion.

“I love people. I enjoy spending time with people and also I’m glad to be in that role but why I got it, I don’t know. But I trust the premier and I told him if he thinks that’s what I should be doing, I trust his judgement.”

Goudy said any nerves he has about the new role are replaced by his trust in the supports that are in place.

“People are very good down in Regina at what they do, so I’m sure they will be able to teach me and support whoever is in that role as they serve.”
