Melfort first in region to get fibre-optic internet

MELFORT — Melfort is the first community in the region to receive fibre-optic internet. As of Feb. 19, SaskTel is providing the service in certain parts of the city. They said they will eventually expand it for the entire city.

MELFORT — Melfort is the first community in the region to receive fibre-optic internet.

As of Feb. 19, SaskTel is providing the service in certain parts of the city. They said they will eventually expand it for the entire city.

“It is exciting to hear that SaskTel infiNET is now available to the citizens of the City of Melfort,” said Rick Lang, Melfort's mayor.

The telecommuncations crown said speeds with the new service will reach up to 300 megabits per second.

SaskTel announced in 2019 that it also plans to introduce fibre-optic internet to Humboldt, Tisdale and Nipawin. It said it is commited to invest $1.4 billion across Saskatchewan through 2023.
