MELFORT — Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks to give electrical access to eight campsites at the Melfort Campground.

A total of $35,350 was previously allocated in the city’s capital budget for the project.

Currently, about two dozen sites at the campground have access to electricity.

“We’ve got a certain amount of sites that have electrical services to the site, and then we have some unserviced sites there,” said Brent Lutz, Melfort’s director of development, planning and community relations.

“We hope to have that completed on or about the time the campground opens this year.”

While unserviced sites remain available, Lutz said there is an increasing usage for campers that prefer the electrical ones.

“The demands on camper trailers compared to decades ago are considerably different, so these will be upgraded sites.”
