MELFORT — Melfort will receive around $26,000 for airport upgrades.

The province is investing $1.5 million this through its Community Airport Partnership for improvements to 19 airports. Melfort’s share will go towards the construction of two new taxiways and the excavation of the existing taxiway.

“As a commercial pilot myself, I know of the benefit these investments will have on some of our more rural and remote communities,” said Fred Bradshaw, the highways minister, in a media release.

“These revitalization and rehabilitation projects will bring some much needed upgrades to some of our community airports and runways, leading to better usage and reliability for medical, emergency and transportation services to all regions of the province.”

The municipalities will be matching the dollars provided by the provincial government.
