John Deere is turning 100 years old in 2018 and the Humboldt Vintage Club will be celebrating right along with them with the Humboldt Vintage Days on Aug. 18 and 19.

Vintage tractor owners are being encouraged to bring their classic John Deere tractors for display, says past president Ken Klassen.

The weekend will include demonstrations, music, and food over two days, with the tractor and horse pulls kicking off the weekend events on July 18.

Klassen wanted to assure people that the club will not run out of elephant ears, which was such a big hit last year.

Klassen is hoping for around 50 tractors, especially some John Deere green ones, to take part in the vintage tractor pull, as well as 12 teams of horses, twice the number that came out for the first horse pull last year, he says.

Buildings will be open, including the tea house and museum, with artifacts and vintage pieces on display from small household items to large vintage machinery.

Getting young people out for the weekend will be a focus for the club with many kids’ activities on Sunday, including a petting zone in the barn, steam engine rides, and bouncy castle, as well as a six to eight different crafters and four musical acts coming in to entertain everyone.

The weekend will conclude with the traditional threshing demonstration on July 19 with volunteers binding and threshing from the club’s north oat field. While anyone is welcome to take part, especially young people, says Klassen, around 50 club members will be part of the demonstration.

The Vintage Club is also excited to announced Saskatchewanderer Kevin Dunn will be visiting to take in some of the action for vintage days.
