The Humboldt SPCA held their Dog Days in the Park fundraiser on Aug. 21 at Water Ridge Park.
Kathleen Forster with the Humboldt SPCA says there was plenty for dogs and humans to do at the park with a doggy kissing booth, barbecue, and contests for dogs, like most beautiful/handsome, best trick, best kisser, and best smile.
All the dogs got a ribbon and prize for best category and were entered into a grand champion category for a very special grand champion Scooby-Doo medal.
“It’s just a way for us to get dogs to the park. Let’s all have some fun, let’s all enjoy it, and no one will get mad at you for bringing your dog.”
All and all it was just a fun day for dogs and owners to come out and have some fun, and socialize. Everyone was invited to come down.
For Forster, who brought her dog, Sam, and other dog owners, there is not a lot of opportunity for these outings in Humboldt.
Forster says bringing her dog out, especially to areas with children, are frowned upon.
“There is no dog park for dogs so you see us all walking them on the street.”
Responsible pet owners, which make up most of the pet owning public in Humboldt, do clean up after their pets, however the few that do not give the rest the bad name, says Forster. The SPCA even offered free baggies for doggy accidents on Sunday.
The goal was to leave the park exactly the way they found it.
Even those without pets and whether a pet owner or not, there was a chance for everyone to have fun.
