PARTNERS is sending out the call again this year for their 2016 School Supply Drive.
PARTNERS Family Services are looking to fill backpacks with school supplies to go to students and families in need.
Last year’s goal of 30 families was handily exceeded with over 50 kids served within the PARTNERS 100 kilometre range, said Executive Director for PARTNERS Family Services Hayley Kennedy through a recent press release.
This year, they are looking to serve 50 families.
PARTNERS again will be partnering with the Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre to help kids in need get ready for the school year.
“We want to ensure that as many families as possible are aware that we can help with supplies, and working with HRNC is a great way to ensure that there are multiple points of access for those wishing to connect with the Back to School Drive,” says Kennedy.
Janine Hart with the Newcomers Centre says this is a great way for them to support new immigrant families, especially when it comes to supplies that families may have trouble getting, like zip up binders, scientific calculators, or Duo-Tangs.
Hart says they supply what they can, especially the more expensive items but help from other sources is always greatly appreciated.
Supplies can be dropped off at Humboldt Summer Fun Camp at the curling rink, PARTNERS Family Services Office, and the Humboldt Newcomer Centre.
These locations will be taking supplies until Aug. 25.
Along with a partnership with Southland Bus, the supply drive will also be at Streetfest from Jul. 19-20 and will have a 72 passenger bus waiting to be filled with supplies.
For those families who are needing assistance this school year, they can call PARTNERS at 306-682-4135 or the Newcomers Centre at 306-682-4277 to register.
