The Elgar Petersen Arena will be undergoing a minor face lift.

The City of Humboldt and the Humboldt Broncos have entered into an agreement, which will see the EPA’s longstanding scoreboard replaced before the start of the 2018-2019 season.

According to a city press release, the current scoreboard has been hanging in Humboldt since its installation in the 1980’s and over the years has been increasingly more difficult to find maintenance and replacement parts.

“Because the existing clock had no video display capabilities there was only limited opportunity to use it as an advertising or promotional tool.  The City and the Bronco club had over the past years discussed the desire to sometimes replace the old score clock,” said the city’s press release.

The new clock will feature a four-sided, full colour, LED video display, with each side of the clock measuring approximately 6.5 feet tall and 11.5 feet wide.

“The full video display capabilities on all four sides greatly enhances the opportunity for the Bronco Hockey Club and the city to generate advertising revenue, for the Broncos during their games and for the city during other events in the arena,” said the release.

While the city and the Broncos have entered into the agreement, the clock will be available for use by all arena users, said the release including minor hockey and Skate Humboldt, who the city say are expected to benefit from the improved display and video capabilities.
