Water Ridge Park will be the home of man’s best friend on Aug. 25, as Dog Day in the Park returns for another year.

The annual event, which this year falls one day prior to National Dog Day, is an fundraiser hosted by the Humboldt SPCA.

SPCA manager Wanda Price says the day is a great chance for not only people to socialize but dogs as well.

“Mostly when dog days started it was to get all the people in town in close areas to come out and bring their dogs and socialize them with all kinds of people and other dogs. If you keep your dog socializing like that it is safer for other people too.”

Today, it’s a fun event for the whole family, says Price who says those who come to the day will find many fun activities for the whole family.

For the adults, Price says the tradeshow will be making a return in 2018, saying she currently has 13 vendors who specialize in a number of different categories including fresh fruit, baking, Tupperware, and dog treats, among others.

For the children, there will be a bouncy castle, games, and a craft table.

The pets will also enjoy some fun with a dog competition where they could win prizes for competitions like best dressed or best trick.

In addition, the event will feature some live music, live agility dog demonstrations, as well as appearances from A&W who will be serving lunch and the Sask. Alley Cats Association, who will be bringing some feline friends as well.

“They have (a lot) of cats and kittens so I invited them out and maybe they can get some adoptions,” said Price.

The Humboldt SPCA will also be bringing some of their pets, with Price saying they plan on bringing both cats and dogs, as well as puppies.

An adoption centre will be set up on the grounds, where those interested in adopting a pet can either adopt one, or get more familiar with some of the pets available for adoption.
