Cross Country Showband featuring local talent Kevin and Marg Harcourt will be back in Humboldt on Jan. 19 with half of the proceeds going to Humboldt Community Gathering Place. Kevin said during the May 5 concert for Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt and Area that he has had a fortunate career both musically and as a business owner in Humboldt area and wanted to give back to such a supportive community. The Cross Country Showband will be returning to Humboldt for another community fundraiser on Jan. 19.

This time they were asked to perform their country classic sound to raise money for the Community Gathering Place which band member Kevin Harcourt says they were happy to do.

“We’ve been together for quite a while now doing a lot of shows and had a super time being together.“

Audiences can expect more of that great sound they produce, says Kevin with a seven piece band and five singers, including himself and wife, Marg.

Even with a larger band, which is at least smaller than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, laughs Kevin, they keep the crowd in mind regarding the sound quality. People can actually hear and understand the words, he says, and that makes a difference on whether the crowd enjoys the show or not.

“People really appreciate the harmonies and variety and taking them back through the memories.”

The best compliment they have ever received, says Kevin, is that people were having a good time and there was no question that the band was having a good time as well.

Gethering Place Administrator Glenda Frey says this is a good opportunity to raise some funds for the community centre with a rash of improvements already being made to the building, including a stair lift and kitchen improvements in the downstairs area.

Half the money raised from the concert will be going towards more facility upgrades but nothing specific at this time, says Frey.

Humboldt has been a great support for their band and Kevin says they are all looking forward to a great family show to help the community.

While they took sometime off for Christmas, the Cross Country Showband is back on the road with shows coming up in North Battleford, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Melfort, Tisdale, Shaunavon, and Maple Creek.
