The Humboldt and Lanigan RCMP detachments are reminding people to take extra care in and around school zones as area children head back to school.

Cst. Geoff Applegate of the Humboldt RCMP detachment reminds readers to watch out for children of all ages as they make their way to and from their schools.

People can also expect to see targeted enforcement initiatives in and around school zones over the next month.

Local RCMP were dispatched to a total of 296 calls for service between Aug. 1 and Aug. 27.

August was an average month for the detachments, but summer season resulted in a noted increase in traffic on the highways.

Police responded to the following calls during August:

Criminal Code investigations: 59

Traffic Related complaints: 101

Impaired Driving Criminal Charges: 2

Well-being checks: 5

Assistance to General Public/Outside Units: 11

911 Act: 10

Alarms/False Alarms: 19

Traffic Collisions (Reportable): 18

Suspicious Persons/Vehicles/Property: 7

Animal Calls/Bylaw calls: 8

Mental Health Act: 5

Coroners Act calls: 2
